Instructor: Winthrop Prince

In this workshop, you will be instructed and guided by an  expert cartoonist & illustrator. You will be guided through the design and creation of your own cartoon or graphic novel.

The Fee is $120.00 per 3 classes.

Winthrop Prince has a BFA in illustration from the Academy of Art College in S.F. His work has appeared in nationally syndicated newspapers. He has received awards from the East Bay Watercolor Society and magazines.

Instructor: Diego Marcial Rios 

Are you fascinated by the Mexican style of mask making? Would you like to learn more about their cultural heritage & how to create a Papier Mache mask?

In this course , you will learn the ancient art of paper folding . You will be able to construct, cranes, fish , dragons & boxes. The class is open to arists of all ages.

The Art Passages Show -Brighter Future

Instructor: Marge Essel

Times : 1-2 P.M. 2-3 P.M.                                                                           Days: Tuesdays - Fridays

Location: The Art Passages Windows    

               2055 Center Street in downtown Berkeley. 

In each session , your students will be guided through an educational  art experience by our ed. coordinator. They will view the art exhibit & discuss the topics in the art passages windows  such as  Brighter Future as presented in the artworks of the art windows. A follow up class will involve the students in an oral &   written language workshop in your classroom.  A Gallery workshops  is also available to your school and students. 

The tour, written & art workshops are free to schools in the Bay Area.



Instructor : LaWanda Ultan                        is a potter and sculptor.

In this pottery workshop, you will learn to construct pots on a wheel. You will also learn how to fire and glaze your work.  Classes are held at LaWanda's studio.

LaWanda Ultan is a sculptor & a potter. She studied art in Berkeley, and was a member of the San Franciso Woman's Artist Association.

Classes for Children & Families 

Puppetry and Storytelling -Creating Puppets & Writing Stories 
Instructor: Marge  Essel

This class  will show you how to draw in pencils  &  paint in acrylics. You will create hand puppets, finger puppets, sock puppets and many other types. Your family will produce as written story as your script for the puppet show that you will all present. You will also learn to give voice to your characters. We may even film it . We can also do scenery for it.

Sessions: Wednesdays  6-8 P.M. April 3,10, 17,   & May 1,8,  15, 2019 

Fee: 85.00 for 4 classes plus $10.00 for  materials.

Marge Essel is an exhibiting artists & a credentialed teacher. She has created puppets for the Lovelace Marionette Theater and done costuming and design for their actors as well. She has also created dance costumes. She has exhibited her photography & sculpture in the Bay Area & London.

Classes begin March 25- May 31, 2019

Traditional Crafts-

This class will be taught by a different guest exhibiting artist every 2 weeks. Children will learn crafts from Origami, ceramics, and recycled fun.   

Monday- ages 4-8 Time: 3-4, 4-5, 5-6 P.M.

Monday-ages 8-12 Time : 3-4, 4-5, 5-6. P.M.

 The Fee is :$200-10classes


This class explores traditional fine arts mediums while teaching the fundamentals of art. Artistic vocabulary will be taught with visual  demonstrations of techniques & practices.

Tuesday or Thursday-ages 4-8 Time:4-5, 5-6 P.M.

Tuesday or Thursday age 8-12 Time:  4-5, 5-6 P.M.

Saturdays Ages 12-16Time 3-4 P.M.

The Fee is: $200-10classes


The ideal student for this class is someone ,who has art experience and knows what they'd like  to create.This class is also for students , who already have a portofolio and want to continue to develope their skills and ideas. Let us prepare for the next step in your educational goals.

Mondays : ages12-16 3:30-5/ 5-6:30 

The fee is: $300.00 for 10 classes

 Richy Ayala is an exhibiting artist & illustartor . He is a skilled illustrator & well versed in photshop & computer skills. . He holds an M.A. from the Academy of Art in San Francisco..

All materials are provided for children. Instructors are arist that exhibit with Expressions Gallery and are proffessionals in their  area of expertise.

In this workshop, you will learn how to design & create a family quilt. You will learn drawing, designing working with fabrics , layout a quilt and how to sew  by hand and machine.
